Symbian update v. 4.16: Twitter sharing, new language support and critical fixes

29 April 2011 Nokia Symbian, Releases 66 Comments

An update to the Symbian Sports Tracker application is now live adding the long-awaited Twitter sharing as well as support for two additional languages: German and Spanish.

The update also includes fixes to the crashes and other issues some users have experienced while using the application on Nokia N8 and Nokia C6. These issues rank among the most mysterious bugs we have ever encountered as they have been very hard to replicate and seem to not only be software issues but might also be related to a specific hardware ie. simply a buggy device. We hope that the fixes that have now been applied to this build will help most affected users get back on “track” with less hiccups.

Sports Tracker Symbian v. 4.16 release notes

  • Added Twitter sharing from device
(NOTE: To enable Twitter sharing on device login to sports-tracker.com and go to Settings to connect your Sports Tracker account with your Twitter account.)
  • Added new language support: German & Spanish
  • Fixes for the issues experienced by Nokia N8 and Nokia C6 users
  • Improved performance when switching between different workout displays
  • Minor tweaks and updates

How to get the update: As usual launch Sports Tracker on your device and accept the update when prompted to get the new version of the app. Sports Tracker detects the language setting of your phone and will automatically switch to Italian, Finnish and now also German or Spanish where applicable. The updated app will also be added to Ovi Store within the next 4-5 days.

Have fun tracking and please keep the feedback flowing!

p.s. We’ve also updated the main page of sports-tracker.com to make it easier for new users to join – so go ahead and invite your friends to join and track with you!

p.s. #2 Android and iPhone development is in light-speed mode as we have entered closed beta on both platforms. We know it’s frustrating that we won’t give you any specific timelines for the release but that is only because we want to be absolutely sure that the apps meet your high expectations. So hang tight, wish us luck and if everything goes well (thanks to all the positive karma you’ll hopefully send our way) the wait should not be that long :)

  1. Thanks for your tips. One thing I’ve got noticed is the fact that banks along with financial institutions really know the spending patterns of consumers and as well understand that plenty of people max out their real credit cards around the breaks. They sensibly take advantage of that fact and then start flooding a person’s inbox plus snail-mail box along with hundreds of Zero APR credit cards offers just after the holiday season comes to an end. Knowing that in case you are like 98% of the American public, you’ll rush at the one opportunity to consolidate credit debt and move balances for 0 annual percentage rates credit cards.

  2. Thank you for the sensible critique. Me and my neighbor were just preparing to do a little research on this. We got a grab a book from our local library but I think I learned more clear from this post. I’m very glad to see such great info being shared freely out there.

  3. advertising and *********** with Adwords. Anyway I?m adding this RSS to my e-mail and could glance out for a lot more of your respective intriguing content. Ensure that you update this again soon..

  4. Mass Friends says:

  5. Renato Santos says:

Olá, gostaria de programar para tocar um alarme quando atingisse 10km de corrida.

Hi, i liked program to play a alarm when i target 10km or another kilometer run.

    obrigado/thank you

  6. lincong999 says:

more and more languages are in need.

  7. ebenf says:

    All OK here. Brilliant!
Please, add scrolling of laps on touch only phone (N8).

  8. JERTXU says:

WITH THIS NEW UPDATE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO UPLOAD MY WORKOUTS BY WIFI. PLS AMEND.

  9. Pupo says:

Why not a “upload all selected” option?

  10. slowest light speed mode i have ever witnessed.

  11. Farlop says:

All these updates are welcome, but, how can it be possible that if have run a half marathon today, my training is 23 km? The race is certified by RFEA (real spanish athletic federation, or something), so it can’t be possible that exceeds 2 km!! Am I the only one who notice that?

  12. marek says:

    give us android version

  13. Orais says:

Is it possible to edit the routes? I noticed that it makes weird cuts and zig-zags where I was running in a straight line or turning on a 90 degree corner, instead of showing up going thru buildings. It might be my gps, but it would be nice to be able to correct it, so distance and speed can be more accurate.

  14. utyg says:

Give us Android version! Come on!
    Great application. Thank you guys.

  15. Mike V says:

I have N95 and loved this app. Problems occured recently (since April) where I can still track my miles BUT can NOT upload. If there is a solution please advise as I also try to update the app on the N95, no update occurs. Thank you

  16. tanja says:

love the app, been using it for two months, nokia, no problems whatsoever. you have totally inspired me to take running seriously. thanks guys.

  17. Android says:

Have been waiting this program for a while. Take it too long, and i choose endomondo allready. Good program and have been cycling many kilometers to work and back =)

    • Hape says:

      Jep
I’m doing the same: using Endomondo with Polar belt. After workouts I transfer them to ST. Works fine. Hoping to hear Android version soon.

  18. Pa says:

AFter upgrading to v4.16 Everything broke in my N8. Can’t sign in, can’t share or upload tracks. Can’t see map. Also going to “settings->general” will crash the application… great :( . What am I going to do my BT heartrate monitor now?

  19. Juanjo says:

    And…. What happened with calories???

  20. Juanjo says:

Please!! ‘TRACK TO FOLLOW’ and “Acumulated ascend”!

  21. Mike V. Henriksson says:

Well first of; updates are great, it shows that the software is “alive”.

    But…

A track to follow, as pointed out before, would be great (as you could in the old Nokia Sports Tracker-version).

The burnt kcal are WAY of, why? Well the reason is really simple, it dowsnt care AT ALL about weight and so on. Walking, your kcal-count, for me, is just above half of what it SHOULD be.

And at last; the precision of the tracker is…so-so. On a S/E Satio (Idou), witch aint a Nokia-phone, but still a Symbianbased phone, the distans can be dubbled, because of this (no problems with the navigational software used on it tho’).
Same thing about my N8. Not by that much, but it shows me that im walking in gardens, parks and so on, when all I’m doing is following the road. So, the accuracy isnt the best. But still better then on a Satio/Idou, with “only” 500m of, on a 4½km trip (witch is more than 10%). This COULD be fixed by the “save route”, or “follow route”, as mentioned before.

  22. Michael says:

Twiter update? For when the option ‘TRACK TO FOLLOW’? This is one of the updates a lot of users are demanding!
Also that the chronometer doesn’t count when you are stopped could be great (specially for cycling).

    • utyg says:

That’s called “autopause”. Works ok for me. Just tune it in settings. Whenever my speed is lower than 2km/h application stops counting time and distance.

  23. A-J says:

Simply excellent! A windows phone 7 release also please!

  24. AlisherMuhametzhanov says:

Hello brothers, thanks for such great program! Which make me wake up at 6.00, I can see results of running!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My name is Ali using sports tracker 2 weeks, today deleted one event from facebook, then uploaded there again, it does n’t appear any more, the same happening with further events, I mark them in upload option (friends, all, facebook) but it does n’t make any sense, I think that’s serious bug. Tell me is It possible to inject sportstracker events to my.mail.ru service. It’s some kind of facebook, popular in CIS & central Asia, it would be great. Noone nearly knows about sports tracker.

  25. Alessio says:

After install of the latest release on my NOKIA C7-00 the application doesn’t start…why? I’m disappointed

    • Alessio says:

ok guys it is not a problem of release but is linked to training file that we save at the end of a work. thanks to those who work to support I solved the problem immediately :D

  26. Diogo says:

Hey there! After the update all workouts KCAL changed!! For example… An exercise where were burned 1164Kcal, after the update it has changed to 661!! The Steps count change too! Fix this!!

  27. Jessica says:

I’m seriously disappointed at the prioritisation of features. There are more useful things to be added than publishing to Twitter, that people have been waiting for since the initial release of your version of Sports Tracker.

  28. ST is the best tracker app I’ve tried, but as I replaced my E71 for an iPhone now I’m using the Nike+ GPS.
I am really anxious for the ST for iOS and Android release, please keep us updated ;)

  29. Karre says:

After last update,I lost Sports Tracker shortcut(running man) on my Nokia N78.It shows me typical unknown shortcut (like piece of puzzle).

  30. Sathish Kumar says:

    Hi,

When this will get update in the OVI Store, as my N79 mobile is not getting auto update. I need to get to OVI Store only to download the NEW version, but the OVI store is having the old version 4.12 and not 4.16.

  31. Jean-Pierre says:

Un superbe programme que j’utilise tout les jours. Merci à vous. A quand une version en français?

  32. foosion says:

On my C6-00 with version 4.12, it didn’t prompt me to update. When I click options->check for updates, I get a “checking for software update…” message, which sits there for many minutes before going away.

    • foosion says:

I tried a few more times and on the last try it offered the update. It download and installed. I haven’t tested it yet, although sunrise and sunset appear correct.

  33. Jack Yell says:

Thank you for the update. Has the wrong calorie calculation for cycling been fixed with this release?

  34. Jack says:

This is a very nice App but the update screwed up my sunrise/sunset time again. Both now display the exact time it is minus one hour, not a big issue but its annoying and I have seen it before. Not sure why it returned :(

  35. `Nice can’t wait on the app, keep it up!

  36. GigaRunner says:

    Hi,

new version not working on my E72. I noticed after running that it is not measuring the trip/kilometers anymore!!!

  37. JoSch says:

New Update – now don’t work on Nokia C7! The App not start… please fix it

  38. HI!
Thanks thanks thanks for the spanish language. I used to run with mi old nokia5800, it died.. (i drop it into a gintonic, lol) and now I use an X6 to run, waiting to the android version to my Samsung Galaxy i9000.

Great work, still waiting for “challenge” option, and trying to undertand how to use the “target” option.

    Cheers!!!

  39. bigk says:

I have similar problem like Christian. It doesn’t install on 5800. It download, shows version, asks to replace and then just exists the installer with “cannot be installed”. Rebooting phone doesn’t help either.

  40. Rafael says:

Hi, well today my sport tracker was updated, but i can’t find where we can change the language, now has german and spanish, but I don’t know how changue, pleas help

    thanks!!

    • Jussi Solja says:

The application detects the language based on the language setting of your phone.

      - Jussi / Team Sports Tracker

    • Hendrik says:

When installing ST, ST gave me a nice list to choose out the desired language.
Installed just fine on my N8. ;-)

  41. Christof says:

Also: it doesn’t install on my N79. It download, shows version, asks to replace and then just exists the installer with the old version still there. Exiting ST while installing doesn’t help either.

    • Jussi Solja says:

Have you tried restarting your device? It seems that an another users who had similar issues solved it by restarting and retrying the update. We did test the app specifically on N79 and the updating worked a-ok…

      - Jussi / Team Sports Tracker

  42. Damian Tomas says:

I was hoping to get sports tracker on android :( I was using sports tracker on my e71. now I switched to an android based phone, and using endomondo. it’s not the same…

  43. Christof says:

Twitter sharing will be useful to me, but would it be possible to reduce the permissions I give to SportsTracker?
    - Read tweets from your timeline.
    - See who you follow, and follow new people.
    - Update your profile.
    - Post tweets on your behalf.
I really just want to give the last options, and as much as I trust SportsTracker I would be unhappy about new friends or a changed profile.

    • karo02 says:

Thank you for this new release, but since then the music tracks don’t show up any more in the media panel, neither for new nor old workouts. Can you fix this ?
